ABOUT
We will be returning to the Rip Jack Inn in Playa Grande. We both agree that this small quaint hotel and the friendly staff had so much to do with our wonderful experience during our trip! It had the feel of a foreign country with the comfort of home. Perfect from the décor to the cleanliness, we couldn’t have recommended anything to improve our room, the restaurant, or the grounds. We enjoyed yoga in the mornings under a canopy of exotic trees and live music in the evenings from the hammock we took over during our stay. We even had our own 4” long grasshopper to guard our room and perk us up before bed in the evenings. Who needs coffee when you have a bird-sized grasshopper flying into your head? It was all so amazing!
RESERVATIONS
For reservations, email the owner Annie directly at info@ripjackinn.com. Our group will receive a 20% discount on the regular hotel room rates if you book by September 1st. You cannot book through the website because we have blocked all of the rooms from 11.30.13 – 12.4.13.
The hotel will accommodate up to 42 people. In the event that we have any overflow, the hotel will contact the two adjoining hotels. The entire strip of hotels is very nice.
FLYING TO PLAYA GRANDE
Also, the rental companies will all place a large hold on your credit car. It seems sketchy, but there is no way to avoid it.
LIBERIA AIRPORT
This is the recommended airport. It is the closest to Playa Grande (about 1hr drive).
SAN JOSE AIRPORT
These flights may be a little cheaper, but the drive will be roughly 4hrs. This is good if you want to see the country, but it is definitely a long drive.
GROUND TRANSPORTATION
RENTAL CAR
This is for the adventurous because it gives you the freedom to explore. Playa Grande itself is a very small town, and the Rip Jack Inn is not a resort. So if you only plan on just relaxing on the beach, soaking in the rays, and surfing, then you won't need a car. If you want to spice things up, a car is a must.
* Adobe Car is strongly recommended by the Rip Jack Inn. Apparently they are the most trustworthy. Nonetheless, please beware of bait/switch dealers. Just make sure you take lots of photos before and after your rental (and let them see you taking those pictures). Also, don't go through Alamo.

SHUTTLE
As explained by Annie, the owner of the RipJack:
- From Liberia Airport
"Yes, we can arrange shuttle to and from the Liberia airport. The cost is $80 for up to four people. All we need is for your guests to forward us their flight information and we can make the arrangements. If multiple guests are on the same flight we can make sure everyone gets on the same shuttle which will lower the cost per person." - aka just email her and she will help you out. (info@ripjackinn.com)
- From San Jose Airport
"San Jose is a bit different. The best most affordable way to get here if they are coming from San Jose would be to take Grayline which is a public shuttle. The website is www.graylinecostarica.com and they can book directly on line. It makes several stops so it may take a bit longer but the cost is affordable around $40 per person. A private shuttle will cost about $250 from San Jose but if there are multiple people that could share the expense that would make it a good option as well."
