Things To Do

These are the highlights from our last trip in the Guanacaste region.  But you may find lots of new/different things to experience.

In Playa Grande
Playa Grande is a very small and sleepy surf town.  The two main activities are surfing and chilling on the beach.  So grab a board and hit the waves.  If you don't know how to surf, take a lesson and give it a try.  Or kick back, sip a beer, and get your relax on.

Waterfalls/Volcano/Etc
We visited two areas relatively close to Playa Grande.

Rincon de la Vieja is a national park built over a volcano.  They had some hot springs, a couple of beautiful waterfalls.  Great experience, and also very non-touristy and low-key.  It is about 1.5 hr drive away, close to Liberia.

Llano de Cortez waterfall was absolutely gorgeous.  There really isn't anything there but a dirt road and a lady selling fresh coconuts.  This is as under the radar as it gets.  Also about 1.5 hrs away, close to Liberia.

Deep Sea Fishing
We didn't do this last time, but some guests already have a charter.  The saltwater fishing off the Costa Rican coast is world famous.

Tamarindo
The locals apparently call this place Tama-gringo.  Surf shops, t-shirt shops, restaurants, beaches, and bars.  It is definitely a touristy town..... but it is a lot of fun.  If you wanna go goof around somewhere or hit up the night-life, this is your spot.  Also, there are some resorts there, so if you want the fancy-pants spa experience with infinity pools etc, they usually have day passes you can buy.  We did this for a day on our last trip, and it was a nice to feel posh and pampered.

Other Beaches
The best beach we saw, in terms of pure beauty, was Playa Conchal.  The beach is made up of crushed seashells, so it has a pearly white color.  Water was crystal blue.  It was gorgeous.  Maybe 45 minute drive north of Playa Grande.
